Item Description

Brazilianite is obviously best known from Brazil, but several localities in New England have also produced species of this well known phosphate. This piece features small, sharp, lustrous pale yellow green color crystals of Brazilianite on pegmatite matrix. You don't see these pieces on the market very often, but collectors of the material know how uncommon they are. It's amazing to think that this locality started producing in the 1860s (assumingly it produced Brazilianite crystals during this time), yet Brazilianite was not discovered in Brazil until approximately 80 years later. The piece is from the Allen V. Heyl Collection, who was a friend of a the Kosnar family and for whom the species Aheylite was named.
