Item Description
Brazilianite is not necessarily rare from Brazil, but specimens from Mendes Pimentel are incredibly hard to find. This piece is an old specimen dating back many decades and features a sharp, well-formed, lustrous, translucent, yellow-green crystal. The most important aspect of the specimen is that it's doubly-terminated, and essentially crystallized all the way around. It's almost a complete "floater" with no point of attachment, but there is a separation mark on the back where another crystal once grew. Great quality, and even more valuable for the rare locality! Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4295). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
