Item Description

Sharp, lustrous, pyramidal to subhedral crystals of braunite are scattered in the vuggy matrix of massive braunite on this old-time, 19th century specimen from the historic co-Type Locality - Oehrenstock, Ilmenau, Germany. Oehrenstock is an ancient manganese mining area and this is very rich solid manganese ore! Ex Havard Collection with a rarely preserved original museum label, and then the George Elling Collection. Hefty at 847 grams or nearly 1.9 pounds. Valued at $1200 for historic rarity and provenance.
