Item Description
Renowned for world-class galena, siderite and bournonite specimens, bournonite is very rare compared to galena and siderite from the famous mines at Neudorf. This is a showy, old-time and very uncommon mounded combination specimen. Clusters of bright metallic bournonite crystals, some with classic cogwheel form and pretty iridescence are set among brown siderite rhombs and are framed on the top and bottom with flattened nailhead calcite rhombs. The matrix plate is covered with quartz points and more calcite rhombs. Brusing is noted, but is certainly acceptable in the context of this rare and classic old-time combination. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 1390 and acquired from Scott Williams in the 1950s. Comes with an old label from the Falkenhorst Collection. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). This fine old-timer is over 100 years old, as the last mines closed in 1903. Modest pink calcite fluorescence.
