Item Description

Splendent, sharp, dark gray BOURNONITE crystals to 6 mm are richly scattered on the matrix covered with glassy, flattened, tan, siderite rhombs from a historic copper mining locale. Copper mining began in this district around 4000 years ago and continued intermittently until 1977! Rare and seldom available material from this ancient locale. Ex Rolf Wein Collection # 2323, a noted Alpine specialist, and purchased in 1986. However, the piece was mislabelled as bornite for decades, apparently (per Dr. Mark Feinglos, who looked at this piece for me). Bournonite is just as rare, but much more interesting to me....I had never seen a piece from this locale
