Item Description

Classic, sharp, lustrous gray, Bournonite cogwheel crystals richly and dramatically cover the front of the sculptural, blocky, 3-dimensional, pastel-pink Rhodochrosite matrix on this exceptional combination specimen from Greece. The cogwheels reach 7 mm. Scattered sprays of small Quartz points add character and contrast. An additional accessory on the back are small Pyrite crystals. Mining started in the historic, ancient polymetallic sulfide and porphyry copper district in the time of Alexander the Great (357-324 BC) (MINDAT). Valued by the former dealer on a previous tag at $2500 although that seems a specialist price; but it IS very RARE in this richness and combination quality.
