Item Description
A classic old time specimen from the famous historic Georg Mine, an ancient iron deposit in northwestern Germany. This piece hosts an excellent, very sharp, well-formed, tabular, steel-greey colored crystal of Bournonite measuring 2.1 cm across associated with additional Bournonites plus Quartz on host rock matrix. The main Bournonite crystal is notably eye-catching, with detailed, beautiful striations and smooth crystal faces on both sides. If you love old classics, sulfosalts or German minerals, do not miss out on this fantastic display piece that dates back many decades. It should be noted that this mine closed in 1965, and this piece is accompanied by a small newspaper clipping in German that talks about the closure of the locality. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#5326). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020. See the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record ( https://www.mineralogicalrecor... ), and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017.
