Bournonite (''cogwheels'')

This eye-catching display specimen is a classic piece from the famed Baia Mare area in Romania which hosts sharp, lustrous, silvery colored, metallic prismatic "cogwheel"-twins of Bournonite measuring up to 8 mm long sitting beautifully atop golden Pyrite matrix with some associated Sphalerite. Very good condition overall, though there are a few small imperfections on the Bournonites, but they still look very nice up close. These are rather rare on the market, as they were found a few decades ago, and they are some of the best "cogwheels" of Bournonite from any European locality. A display piece to add to a sulfide / sulfosalt suite or a Romanian mineral collection.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#48 Ru), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
