Item Description

Bournonite from China is generally the world supply for collectors, with a few exceptions from smaller finds elsewhere, these last few years. However, most Chinese bournonite of quality, such as this, actually came out prior to 2010 and is coming out of old stashes and collections now. It is not as common as it was in 1990s-2010 or so. The modern influx of superb Chinese bournonite crystals have put them on a par with the classic old "cogwheel" specimens from the Herodsfoot Mine in Cornwall, England in the 1800s, but accessible to more collectors. This spear-like, bright metallic, sharply terminated crystal, is something that would have been thousands of dollars more expensive if from Bolivia or England and China is temporarily producing ...a good investment, I think! It is contacted on back, but SO sharp and displayable from the front.

This specimen is part of the 2023 Dallas Mineral Collecting Symposium benefit auction, with proceeds benefiting Mineralogical Record, Rocks & Minerals, Tucson Gem and Mineral Society, and mindat.org. Thanks to all of our participants!
