Item Description

A dense and rich jackstraw nest of soft-to-the-touch brilliant metallic-gray Boulangerite needles carpet the matrix on this very rich and showy example from this famous Zacatecas mine. The matrix includes a few bright brassy pyrite cubes, to 4 mm, a typical accessory. Common in the 1960s and early 70s, these are hard to obtain today. These were originally marketed as Jamesonite, but X-ray and microprobe work showed the species is actually Boulangerite. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection No. 3497 and acquired in 1993. This rich and showy combination piece displays well without aid.
