Botryoidal velvet Malachite

Shimmering, chatoyant velvet malachite botryoids cover this sculptural large plate from this extinct large well-known open pit skarn-type Cu-Mo deposit. When you move bright light back and forth over them, it looks like eyeballs or circles flash on the knobs, tracking your motion. The effect is interesting and mesmerizing. The striking broken botryoid reveals the radial growth of the layered chatoyant acicular malachite crystals, adding character to the botryoid formation and color. The dramatic and decidedly different form of the malachite on the back side adds even more allure to this fine large piece. The Shilu Mine has produced outstanding malachite and azurite specimens and this is an excellent large example. Valued at $2500.
