Item Description
A classic, old-time malachite crust from the famous Russian copper mines in the Urals. Matte lustre bubbly botryoids cover the front of the sculptural piece. One edge has been polished to highlight and bring out the beautiful malachite "eyes" and banding. The scalloped reverse has striking two-color malachite. This historic Copper-Iron district produced the malachite for the fantastic large urns and for decorative work for Imperial Russia. A very fine and artistic old-timer, dating to prior to World War I.
