Item Description

Striking, variably-sized forest-green, matte lustre bubbly botryoids richly and aesthetically cover the sculptural hefty ore matrix. This is an exceptionally fine, rich and RARE botryoidal malachite from this famous and extinct Irish open pit and underground Pb-Zn-Cu mine. The matrix includes cerussite and corroded galena. The mine opened in the 1960s and closed in 1982. Much of the oxidized portion of the deposit had been removed before collectors became aware of the specimen quality here. Hence, high quality specimens, such as this, are RARE. Formerly in the Dave Stoudt Collection. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection and acquired in 1995. This is easily the finest malachite we have seen from the Tynagh Mine. Valued at $1500-2000.
