Item Description
Beautiful banded velvet malachite botryoids with variable green hues and shimmering chatoyance line a sculptural 4.0 cm vug dramatically accented with a hole. This impressive small cabinet of nearly solid banded botryoidal malachite ore is from the famous and extinct Burra Burra Mine of South Australia. The vug displays very well from two angles. This historic underground and open pit copper mine opened in 1845 and finally closed in 1981. See the 1994 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 25, No. 2. Probably an old specimen for this locality, but no proof. Ex Kurt Hefendehl Collection, a well-known German collector who amassed a world-wide collection of over 6000 pieces. Classic and showy malachite from the well-known locale.
