Botryoidal "grape" Amethyst

Fascinating, colorful, sculptural and very 3-dimensional large botryoidal "grape" amethyst from recent finds in Indonesia. Juicy, sparkly lavender translucent botryoids cover the entire piece. Some of the sparkly botryoids are included with green clay and are are a nice contrast. The striking boxwork form on one side addds much character. The bit of scattered bruising and contacting is certainly only a modest detraction to this striking 360-degree piece. These caused a major stir at recent shows and are certainly beautiful, colorful and artistically fine specimens. Botryoidal amethyst is quite rare worldwide. Analysis by Dr. George Rossman at Caltech concluded these should be labeled as amethyst, and not chalcedony or agate. An artistic and highly representative cabinet example.
