Botryoidal Amethyst (Richard Rossi Coll.)

Very 3-dimensional, 360-degree, sculptural large solid botryoidal "grape" amethyst from recent finds in Indonesia. Juicy lavender translucent botryoids, to 7 mm, comprise the upper portion of this artistic piece. Botryoids on part of the lower portion of the piece are a muted grayish-lavender. These caused a major stir at recent shows and are certainly beautiful, colorful and artistically fine specimens. Botryoidal amethyst is quite rare worldwide. These were first sold as agate or chalcedony. Analysis by Dr. George Rossman at Caltech concluded these should be labeled as amethyst, and not chalcedony or agate. An artistic and highly representative cabinet example. This excellent piece has only one edge attachment and the few bruised botryoids are certainly only a modest detraction.
