Item Description

Unusually sculptural small cabinet of intergrown platelets of botryoidal amethyst aesthetically peppered with well-defined botryoids from recent finds in Indonesia. The well-defined botryoids are lustrous, translucent and have pretty variable lavender color against the darker purple platelets. Attachments on both sides are mostly out-of-sight on this exotic looking example from the finds. Botryoidal amethyst is quite rare worldwide and these were first identified as agate or chalcedony. Subsequent analysis by Dr. George Rossman at Caltech concluded that they are truly amethyst. See the 2018 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 49, No. 6. A strange looking, yet aesthetic example from the locale.
