Bornite with Calcite

A showy and fine quality association specimen from these well-known specimens that came out in the early 1990s. They are few and far between on the market today, but remain as some of the finest crystallized examples of Bornite from any world locality. This is an excellent and eye-catching toenail sized specimen featuring fine sharp, iridescent metallic Bornite crystals associated with a lovely golden colored tapered scalenohedral Calcite crystal on Quartz matrix. The largest Bornite crystal measures 8 mm across, and the Calcite measures 1.2 cm long. This is an excellent overall specimen, with no damage and pleasing arrangement. Formerly in the collection of William ("Bill") Pinch (August 15, 1940 - April 1, 2017) of Rochester, New York. Bill was one of the most knowledgeable and accomplished mineral collectors / amateur mineralogist of the 20th century, and he was the namesake for the rare mercury oxyhalide species, Pinchite. The prestigious Pinch medal, which is typically awarded at the Tucson Gem And Mineral Show by the Mineralogical Association of Canada is also named in his honor.
