Item Description
A very hard to find old-time Bornite specimen from the Mangula Mine in Zimbabwe (formerly labeled as "Rhodesia"). This old copper/silver mine dates back many decades, and specimens are notably rare to find on the market. This piece is essentially a section of ore, featuring crystalline iridescent "peacock" Bornite, associated with grey Calcite. If you collect copper species, rare localities, or you've always wanted a specimen from the Mangula Mine, don't miss out on this one.
The piece comes from the inventory of Les Presmyk (De Natura), with an attribution from the collection of Mark Chance Bandy, the well-known and beloved US mineralogist who died in 1963, so you know the piece is well over 60 years old. You can read more about Bandy's life in the obituary written by George Switzer in the American Mineralogist ( http://www.minsocam.org/ammin/AM49/AM49_464.pdf ).
