Item Description
The well-known Dzhezkazgan district produced some of the world 's finest and sharpest bornite crystals in the 1990s to early 2000s and this is a very fine combination miniature. Bornite crystals are quite rare, worldwide. Sharp, pseudo-octahedral crystals to 9 mm are aesthetically isolated on the sculptural drusy quartz crystal matrix plate. The nubby bornites have a mostly matte finish, but light iridescence is noted on every crystal in bright light. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 12589 and acquired at the Executive Inn from a Czech dealer at the 1998 Tucson Show. It was collected in 1997. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Choice bornite with isolated crystals.
