Item Description

Typically we see copper in the form of Azurite and Malachite from Milpillas, but the "sulfide" zone has recently produced some attractive Bornite specimens. In actuality these specimens are technically pseudomorph of Bornite after Pyrite. Some of the exposed crystals on the piece show a golden metallic Pyrite core, but others are completely pseudomorphed all the way through. This fine miniature display piece features a sharp, well-formed, silvery metallic crystal of Bornite coating Pyrite which measuress 1.9 cm aesthetically perched atop matrix. The crystal is mostly damage free, with only a bit of roughness. These are interesting specimens, and should be recognized as such. Milpillas may or may not produce more Azurites and Malachites - we're told that they have mined through the oxidized zone into the sulfides - but these Bornites coating Pyrite are limited for sure, and if you want one, don't pass them up, because like most localities, the material goes away fast, and then it's very difficult to find good quality pieces for decent prices.
