Item Description

Boracite is an uncommon Mg-Borate with a Halogen (Cl). This excellent and uncommon old-time Matrix specimen is from the well-known extinct Type Locality - Lüneburger Kalkberg in Germany. Four adamantine luster, glassy, translucent, gray, orthorhombic crystals, to 9 mm, are attractively set adjacent to each other in the sculptural, blocky small cabinet matrix. This gypsum quarry was very famous in the 19th century for its boracite crystals (MINDAT). The piece has a fine provenance having been in the Philadelphia Academy of Sciences collection (matching numbers) and then the Chis Stefano Collection. Chris formerly worked at the Seaman Museum in Michigan and is currently the Editor of the Mineralogical Record. Illustrated in the MINDAT Photography Gallery for the locale at: https://www.mindat.org/photo-243756.html. Valued by the former dealer at $450. An outstanding matrix example from the famous locale.
