Item Description
Boracite is a rare anhydrous Mg-borate with a halogen found in evaporite deposits. Mineral specimens of ANY species are super rare from the obscure potash works at Friedrichshall. The MINDAT Photo Gallery for the locale has no specimen photos. This is a large, sharp, lustrous brown pyramidal crystal from the locale. Previously from the Willard Perkin collection or dealer stock (note the label on his TN box). He is generally credited as the inventor of the "Perky box" for standard thumbnails display. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5731 and acquired from Willard in Glendale in 1969. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). VERY RARE, sharp and fine boracite from the locale.
