Item Description
There is only one locality in the state of California where Boltwoodite has been reported, the New Method Mine (Hope Uranium Prospect) in San Bernardino County. The crystals from this locality are micros, but they are certainly fine quality crystallized examples of the species. This specimen hosts serval micro "sprays" of rich yellow colored Boltwoodite measuring up to 4 mm across, associated with purple Fluorite and Calcite on matrix. The Boltwoodites are best seen under magnification, and we've photographed this piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. If you collect rarities, uranium minerals, or specimens from California, don't pass up the chance to get your hands on this notably hard to find piece from this former uranium mine in Southern California. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
