Boltwoodite (rare California locality)

Item Description

Here we have a notably rare specimen of Boltwoodite from the New Method Mine (Hope Uranium Prospect) in San Bernardino County. This is the only locality in the state where Boltwoodite has been reported. The crystals from this locality are micros, but they are certainly fine quality crystallized examples of the species. This specimen hosts several micro "sprays" of rich yellow colored Boltwoodite measuring up to 4 mm across, associated with purple Fluorite and Calcite on matrix. The Boltwoodites are best seen under magnification, and we've photographed this piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
