Item Description

Boleite is a very rare silver species that is only found in significant, quality crystals from this district. After its first discovery in the late 1800s, it was a classic for Mexico but, compared to the rest of the Mexican minerals we see on the market, a little off the beaten track as far as geography goes. New finds were discovered here by Bill Larson and Ed Swoboda in the 1970s, and this is a piece from that era. These Boleites reach .5 cm, a good size for the species, and their electric blue color is renowned. There are six well-exposed crystals on the stabilized (thankfully) matrix, and the little bit of wear on a few of the crystals doen't diminish the piece at all. Such rich, well-preserved pieces in this size range are uncommon, and you can appreciate the aesthetics and value of this small cab. Certainly today, decades later, they are considered one of the hardest to obtain of Mexican classics. Originally priced at $1700, From the Keith Proctor colection in 1999.
