Item Description

The famous Boleo Distrixt is the Type Locality for three Holy Grail Mexico species, Boleite, Pseudoboleite and Cumengite. Three classic magnificent indigo-blue, lustrous, partially translucent boleite cubes are aesthetically set on two sides of the sculptural, mounded stabilized clay matrix. The impressive dominating large cube, at 7 mm, has modified corners, and the two smaller crystals are simple cubes, 5 mm (on the back) and 4 mm. Tiny crystals are scattered on the matrix. This very fine matrix specimen is from the 1973 mining effort by Pala Properties International (Ed Swoboda and Bill Larson), who drilled a new inclined tunnel to intersect the old workings. See the two fine articles in the 1998 Mineralogical Record, Mexico Mexico Special Issue I, Vol. 29, No. 1. Comes with the original Pala label dating to the 1970s or 80s with a $450 price. Value today is $1250-1500 for a matrix small cabinet of this quality. Seldom on the market today.
