Item Description
A couple years ago there was a discovery of this beautiful and rare material in Indonesia. Once polished, the gems exhibited beautiful blue coloring, similar to the nearby ocean, and were dubbed "Blue Tide Seam Onyx" by the locals. I've seen these gems also marketed as "Blue Tide Seam Agate" for reference. The two main components to these stones are the blue (copper-bearing) areas of cryptocrystalline Quartz (Onyx or Agate) and the lighter white/grey areas are Calcite. The gorgeous swirling patterns and beautiful formations in these gems remind me of what you might see inside of a lava lamp or one of those photos of ink being injected into water. I love the stuff, it's unique, colorful and fairly new, so I'm sure most of you don't have one in your collection. This particular gem is a very good sized "Pear Cabochon" cut stone with a mixture of a both light and dark blue colors along with contrasting spots of silvery-grey Calcite and minor yellow spots of what I'm told could be Chalcedony. Don't miss out on this one, as there are few available and I haven't seen any new stones in well over a year at this point.
