Item Description
Chemically speaking, Opal is essentially Quartz with water content. There is some discussion as to whether Opal should still be considered a separate species as it doesn't have a crystal structure, and it's essentially amorphous silica. With that said, Opal is found in a wide range of colors, and ranges from completely opaque to 100% water clear. This gem is a fine example of the newly mined (2022) wonderful blue copper-bearing Opals from Buton Island in Indonesia. The stone has a light blue color with a simple "Parallelogram" cut, and good translucency when backlit. We picked up a small parcel of these stones in Tucson, as they were something different, eye-catching and new.
