Item Description
A unique, large, fossil / gemstone from England featuring attractive blue-green algae that has formed stromatolites in marble. These stromatolites are formed when the algae (cyanobacteria) excretes calcium carbonate to form a dome-like structure, which hardens and becomes the actual marble in which it is found. Over thousands of years these build up into a hard rock that continues to grow. This large cabochon / polished piece is a superb representation of this classic and somewhat hard to find material. The sheer size and weight makes it a total bargain for the $100 starting bid, since it's priced at LESS THAN $1 per carat. This is the only example of this material that we have to offer in the auctions, so don't miss out.
