When it comes to Black Opals, most people are familiar with the excellent stones from Lightning Ridge, Australia. In recent years, there have been a small amount of fine quality Black Opals trickling out a fairly new discovery in Indonesia. The brilliant colors, rich black background and good sized stones make them quite comparable to their Australian counterparts. This "Oval Cabochon" cut stone shows excellent electric flashes of color, which are predominantly red, but flashes of green, gold, blue and purple can be seen as well. The color flash shows up better under a STRONG light, and the stone looks great in direct sunlight as well. This is a SOLID Opal, not a doublet or triplet, which is always more desirable when it comes to value.
