Black Opal (multi-color flash)

In recent years, we've seen some very attractive and impressive Opals coming out of Ethiopia. They range from Precious Opals to Jelly Opals to Fire Opals and even Black Opals. These gems rival some of the better Australian and Mexican stones for color, quality and size. This "Pear Cabochon" cut gem has deep smoky grey, and it shows multi-color flash with brilliant streaks of red, green, yellow/orange, turquoise and a tiny amount of darker blue and purple tones. Now the color flash is best seen in sunlight or with a strong flashlight, and we've done our best to show it in the photo/video. My favorite aspect of this stone is that it has a cream colored "stripe" that runs across the stone, giving it character. It's a very attractive stone, and would make a great piece of jewelry, or would stand on its own as a beautiful gem. How often does one have a chance to purchase a completely natural multi-color Black Opal gem for such a reasonable starting bid ? Keep in mind that top Australian Black Opals can retail for well over $10,000 per carat in some cases, so the Ethiopian gems are a great bargain by comparison.
