Item Description

The finest Black Opals in the world are found in Australia, and they are the standard by which all other multicolor Opals are judged. Top end stones can sell for well over $10,000 per carat. One of my favorite qualities of Opal is its diversity. It's one of the few stones that looks just as attractive when it's crystal clear as it does when the stones are opaque. Despite its rather simplistic chemistry, Opals show a great range of color in many varieties. This "Pear Cabochon" cut gem shows flashes of red, orange, blue and green, set against a dark background. When this stone is strongly lit, it shows good color in areas. It's important to note that this is a solid Opal, not a doublet or triplet, which is important in terms of value, as doublets and triplets will sell for less than solid stones.
