Bizarre Citrine Quartz ps. after Calcite stalactites (Dick Heck Coll.)

This surreal and rare large 360-degree pseudomorph from the well-known polymetallic skarn mines at Charcas is certainly eyecatching. Two generations of quartz have replaced a remarkably complex cluster of calcite cave helectite stalactites. Intensely sparkly, glassy, drusy quartz points have pseudomorphed (altered from ) the dramatically intergrown calcite stalactites. The broken ends reveal the yellow citrine quartz, that filled the holes where the precipitating silica-rich fluids flowed. The stalactites reach about 12.0 cm in length. The yellow quartz in the cores could be Ferruginous (iron rich) Quartz. Charcas is famous for world-class Calcite, Danburite, Nifontovite (a rare borate) and Datolite specimens. Valued at $1800 about 10 years ago when we purchased the collection of the late Dick Heck, himself gone longer than that.
