Item Description

There are a few iconic species from the Thomas Range in Utah, namely Bixbyite, Topaz and Red Beryl. A few accessory species in the area include Hematite, Pseudobrookite and Fluorite, but it's really hard to find ALL of them together on the same specimen. This piece has everything except the Red Beryl is it features a 4 mm sharp, lustrous, jet-black cuboctahedron of Bixbyite sitting atop a layer of lavender Fluorite with micro associated Topaz, Hematite and Pseudobrookite. We have photographed the piece with a Canon MP-E 65 macro lens to better illustrate the quality. Classic material from Utah! Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#8031). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
