Item Description

Bismuthinite, Bi-sulfide, is a member of the Stibnite Group and is isostructural with stibnite. It is a signature, yet uncommon species from this famous old and extinct Cornwall mine. Lustrous to matte metallic blades to nearly 2.0 cm are lavishly set on all sides of the dramatically sculptural cellular quartz matrix. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2217 and acquired from the Bradley's in February, 1964. ID'd by Lou Perloff, prominent US micromounter and Peter Embrey, Curator of Minerals at the British Museum in 1970. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A photograph of the piece has already been published in the MINDAT locality photo gallery by Rock Currier in 2009. An outstanding, uncommon and rich example from this historic and important copper-tin mine.
