Item Description
Typically, specimens of Native Bismuth from various world localities are either rounded nuggets, or cleavage/indentation faces, and actual crystals are fairly rare in nature. This piece is a fantastic small cabinet specimen that is loaded with dozens of defined crystals(!) of Bismuth which have a deep metallic silvery-grey hue, and measure up to about 5 mm, on matrix from the Das Aufgeklärte Glück Mine, in Hasserode, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It's the only piece we've ever had to offer from the locality, and it's a choice example as the crystals are beautiful to view up close. You can see from the micro photos that we included, the crystals have a fantastic skeletal/hoppered appearance, and a pseudo-octahedral form (the species is actually trigonal) which is captivating when you look at them under magnification. The piece comes with a label from the collection of M. Fischer of Mannheim, Germany, along with the number "406" for reference. Another small hand-written note states that the Das Aufgeklärte Glück Mine is the only locality on mindat.org where Bismuth has been reported from the Hasserode area. A really excellent and hard to find specimen of fine crystallized Bismuth from this fairly obscure locality.
