Bi-colored Tourmaline w/ Quartz (New Find)

Item Description

A dramatic large bi-colored tourmaline combination from a new find near the famous Golconda pegmatites. The 8.1 cm crystal is artistically angled and strikingly embedded near the top of the large tourmaline crystal. Both crystals are watermelons with pink cores, highly lustrous, glassy, gemmy/translucent and are very well-striated. The watermelon pink core runs most of the length of the 8.1 cm trigonal prism with a beautiful 6 mm indicolite-blue gemmy section below the the 4 mm very dark purple to black matte luster termination. The pink core is visible in about one-half of the large tourmaline. The cluster of quartz crystals, lilac lepidolite plates and small tourmalines at the base and patch of lepidolites on the small tourmaline add delightful character of this remarkable specimen. The upper end of the large crystal is broken. Complete all-around and in great shape, overall. Two of us looked the piece over carefully, including our resident mineralogist. The large crystal appears to have 1 clean repair and a broken tip to a lower side car crystal. The smaller tourmaline has 4 clean repairs. The repairs are certainly acceptable in the context of pegmatite species, especially large tourmalines, such as this. 181 grams mass. A sculptural, aesthetic and significant large watermelon tourmaline combination from the new find.
