Item Description

The Little Three Mine, renowned for world-class topaz and spessartine garnet specimens, is well-known for equant dark tourmalines, such as this fine small cabinet combination example from the Bob Reynolds Collection. The stout trigonal prism is mostly highly lustrous, well-striated jet-black opaque schorl and capped with a contrasting matte black termination. A portion of the front of the crystal has a striking and artistic overgrowth of gemmy olive-green elbaite. Contrasting cleavelandite on the termination and sides are an aesthetic and common accessory. Bob is a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. See the excellent locality article in the 1989 Mineralogical Record Vol. 20, No. 2. Classic and excellent combination tourmaline from the famed locale.
