Item Description
Tourmaline and quartz combination specimens are rare from the well-known Sapo Mine, famous for multi-colored purple/blue capped crystals found in the 1990s. This is amazingly rich and sculptural large specimen has a multitude of tourmalines embedded in a large translucent quartz crystal. Note that the quartz has some incomplete faces and two terminations are complete here - the rest of the tourmalines are really just "background color", and broken.Still, it is beautiful. Most of the glassy, striated, gemmy to translucent, tourmalines are classic "watermelons", having pink interiors and green rinds. Some of the smaller crystals are the highly desirble blue caps. The large crystals on two sides, to 5.8 cm, have broken and healed tips. Periphery wear and bruising are noted. This remains a remarkable, rare and rich large tourmaline and quartz combination from this famous mine. Every turn presents a different perpective to this striking piece.
