Bi-colored Tourmaline on Cleavelandite (RARE , circa 1960 !) Larson Coll.

Item Description

Mineral specimens are SUPER RARE from this obscure pegmatite located south of and adjacent to the famous Tourmaline King Mine (source of the superlative large old "Steamboat" tourmaline at the Smithsonian). A striking, 4.2 x 2.8 cm across by 4.7 cm tall, bi-colored, oval, trigonal tourmaline crystal is aesthetically framed by the bladed cleavelandite matrix. The beautiful lavender, glassy translucent, striated outer rind with a fabulous glassy scalloped termination encloses the schorl core. This is an exceptional and rare OLD-TIME combination from the locale. Ex Bill Larson San Diego County Pegmatite Collection and long on display at his Pala International shop in Fallbrook. A handwritten note by Bill with the piece states that he collected the specimen on the dumps with his Father in about 1960! These are simply not for sale at any price and we were fortunate to get this old collection of such treasures. When they are gone...they are gone~!
