Item Description
The Stewart Mine is renowned for gorgeous, hot-pink tourmaline, but has also produced very fine bi-colored tourmalines, such as this very fine combination example. This very glassy, well-striated crystal is mostly black schorl. The classic, pretty pink, 5 mm zone is capped by the 3 mm, teal-blue termination zone. The termination is lustrous and frosted and the tourmaline is beautifully wrapped in bladed cleavelandite. Very nearly pristine, only a trivial bit of termination edgewear is noted on the presentation view, while on the back and out of sight, contacting is noted, but has no damage, per se. A slight visible crack in the tourmaline is not a repair, just part of the in situ realities of life in the San Diego pegmatites. Old combination material from the 1960s, and very seldom available in this fine quality. Ex Maury Morgenstein Collection (an old-time San Diego miner and gem dealer). SUPERB MINIATURE!!! valued $900-ish
