Item Description
Beautiful and sculptural, two-toned small cabinet smithsonite from the closed El Refugio Mine. The very juicy, waxy lustre bubbly botryoides are pretty lavender grading into pink. This is classic, old 1960s or 1970s vintage material from this essentially mined out locale, that was documented in a 2011 Mineralogical Record Mexico-VI Special Issue, Vol. 42, No. 5. Many of us consider them much more beautiful than botryoidal smithsonite from nearly all other localities. The lavender color is highly desirable, among the many colors produced. Ex Gary Weaver Collection. A choice bicolored example from the locale. Specimens like this can be seen at shows, when they turn up, priced in the $1500-2500 range.
