Item Description
Beautiful bi-colored translucent banded smithsonite from the famous and extinct El Refugio Mine at Choix. A gorgeous blue-zone zone is layered between pretty pink on this showy and excellent botryoidal crust. The colors light up, when backlit. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5757 and acquired in 1969, during the heyday of mining here. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Classic Choix smithsonite with fine color. 195 grams mass.
