Item Description

A rare style, deceptive and older gemmy bi-colored tourmaline from an unknown Madagascar pegmatite. The glassy and lustrous crystal has a striking super-steep, notched pyramidal termination and furrowed prism faces. The back is dramatically tabular with healed side cars. The crystal looks bottle-green, but back lighting reveals a fine surprise - the base is a beautiful variable vivid pink! Complete all-around and nearly pristine. You barely notice the bit of left front prism edge bruising. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 7787 and acquired from the Lidstrom's at the 1975 Detroit Show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Fascinating and rare style 360-degree tourmaline from Madagascar. 13 grams mass.
