Item Description
A beautiful, gemmy and lustrous, bi-colored tourmaline from the famous Gillette Quarry. The base of the well-striated, trigonal crystal is light bottle-green, grading upward to colorless to faint pink zone below the yellow-green section. The pyramidial termination is honey-yellow. This renowned pegmatite opened in 1896 for gem tourmaline, mineral specimens and commercial grade feldspar. It closed in 1914 and reopened very briefly in 1934 and from 1942-44. It has been closed since. Outstanding, classic material, probably dating to the primary mining period. Pristine. Mass is 11.18 carats or just over 2 grams. Valued at $400.
