Item Description
A 3.8 x 3.5 cm fluorite cube dominates this sculptural cluster of bi-colored cubes from this old, well-known, extinct Bavarian fluorite mine. Scattered tiny pyrites or marcasites and a single, sharp chalcopyrite sphenoid are RARE accessories. The matte satin lustre cubes appear to be opaque, but broken edges, the back and back lighting reveal some translucent amber interiors, adding character and color. The lighter colored fluorite fluoresces purple. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4742 and acquired from Al McGuinness in the mid-1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). An uncommon and choice flourite example of this varietal with rare accessories from this old mine.
