Item Description
Large, rich, high quality plate of intergrown bi-colored fluorite crystals from the Purple Rain Pocket of the Lady Annabella Mine (a new hole in the same mine) at famed Weardale in the old English fluorite mining district. The glassy, lustrous cubes have beautiful, gemmy, rich purple corners and included "clouds" of secondary fluorite in the interiors. Backlighting highlights the gemminess of the purple corners and the interior "clouds". The impressive pair of cubes at the top are up to 2.0 cm on edge, the large compound cube on the bottom left is 2.7 cm on edge and the STRIKING, GEM penetration twin on the center-right is 3.0 cm across on the diagonal. The lightly bruised corner on the twin is certainly a modest detraction. The interior is otherwise pristine. Bright purple LW UV fluorescence. From a USA collector who diligently acquired specimens from every pocket. The base has been sawed on this excellent, rich and very showy plate to enhance the display. Priced at $1000 wholesale when sold by UK Mining ventures, which found these.
