Item Description

An EXTREMELY rare, old and nifty sharp, floater, cordierite crystal from a very obscure locale in Japan - Doshi. This pristine, textbook, prismatic, orthorhombic thumbnail crystal is lustrous and translucent and is beautifully bi-colored, with an indigo-blue core and a honey-brown rim. The Columbia University label dates to prior to 1868!, the end of the Edo period in Japan. Doshi was a village in Kai Province until that date and was latter created within the Yamanashi Prefecture. A striking, beautiful and perhaps unique Japanese cordierite with a fine provenance.
