Item Description

This very rare copper selenide is named after Juns Jakob Berzelius, who was the father of analytical chemistry, and the inventor of chemical symbol notation for the periodic table. He also discovered selenium, thormium, zirconium, titanium, silicon and cerium. This specimen is from the famous and now closed Bukov Uranium Mine in the Czech Republic. Dark semi-metallic, slightly bluish-grey groups of Berzelianite in pinkish carbonite matrix. This piece is the only one of these specimens that we have to offer, and comes with a classic label from Josef Vajdak / Pequa Rare Minerals, which immediately increases the value. You can read Joe's biography here: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1371 According to Joe's label, the piece was collected in the 1950s.
